Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano came out with the information on Monday morning that Olivier Giroud will sign a contract extension at AC Milan in the next few days.
The Milan club’s management started talking to Giroud about a new contract practically at the turn of the new year, and the desire for a contract extension has always been mutual. However, despite expectations, the 36-year-old French striker will not be receiving a higher salary.
It will remain at almost €3.5 million per season, with Giroud’s new contract running until the end of June 2024, but without an option or subsequent extension.
Romano also reports that Everton were interested in the Chambéry native back in January. However, Giroud had one wish – to stay.
The Rossoneri continue to sign new contracts with key figures of the team. A few days ago, Italian media reported that Rafael Leão had also verbally agreed a new contract with AC for the time being.
Giroud as a key AC player
The French international is undoubtedly one of the cornerstones of Stefano Pioli’s line-up, having already shown his importance in many key matches.
Needless to say, Giroud has probably been one of the key players in the title chase. The Rossoneri won it again last season after eleven years.
Giroud joined Milan in July 2021 for a fee of €2.85 million. In the red and black jersey, he scored 26 goals in 74 competitive matches and assisted 10 more. He is currently AC’s second top scorer with seven goals.
