Another goal! Erling Haaland hits two major milestones against Fulham
Norwegian goal scorer Erling Haaland did not go goalless at Fulham either, opening the scoring in the third minute of the match from a penalty. He scored his thirty-fourth goal in a single Premier League season, equalling Alan Shearer and Dwight Yorke, who scored the same number of goals in the 1993/94 season.
Given the form of the current Premier League’s top scorer, there was probably no doubt that Haaland would match Shearer and Yorke and very likely surpass them.
It happened during the 34th round at Craven Cottage Stadium against home side Fulham, when Haaland was the one to put the ball in the whitewash after Tim Ream’s foul in his own penalty area.
His shot into the bottom right corner of the net gave goalkeeper Bernd Leno no chance to parry the effort. Haaland thus consolidated his lead at the top of the scorers’ table, being the only player to break the 30-goal mark in a Premier League season.
Also thanks to the Norwegian striker’s goal, Manchester City managed the match. The defending champion of last year’s championship thus took the top of the table one point ahead of Arsenal. Pep Guardiola’s charges have one more match to play against their London rivals in the title fight.
The penalty corner strike was also Haaland’s 50th goal scored in all competitions. With Haaland’s team still in the Champions League, where they will face Real Madrid in the semi-finals, Haaland’s goal account may be far from final.
In addition, the Citizens will also face their city rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final in early June, which they will be looking to successfully navigate, perhaps with the help of Haaland’s goals.
Haaland’s earliest opportunity to increase his goal tally will be back in the Premier League on Wednesday.
Manchester City will be at home against West Ham United and will definitely be looking to take another step towards a successful defence of their Championship title. And Haaland will surely be hungry for goals once again.
