You may have already heard of the Fruhvirt sisters. 17-year-old Linda dominated the ITF W25 tournament in Cancun, Mexico in February and is predicted to have a bright future. Slightly bigger still perhaps for 15-year-old Brenda, who dominated the W25 tournament in Tucuman, Argentina and the W25 in Klosters, Switzerland.
But there are other Czech players shining at junior Wimbledon. The ninth-ranked junior tennis player, Nikola Bartůňková, reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals, where she was knocked out by Hungary’s Luca Udvardy.
However, Linda Klimovic will be able to avenge her countrywoman. The 18-year-old tennis player first eliminated Greek Laki, then British Lacy, then she dealt with Swiss Naef and in the quarterfinals she eliminated British Conway.
It was here that she showed strong nerves. She lost the first set 2-6 and even won two games with great difficulty, even facing four break points in the second.
But in the second set, the advantage began to turn to the Czech tennis player. She took her opponent’s serve twice and led 3-0. Finally, she took the set to a victorious end 6-2. And the third set was more of an exhibition, when Klimovic used three break points and won 6-1.
In the semifinals, she will face a big challenge in the form of Hungarian Udvarda. The match starts today at 3 pm.
