Another change! Procházka can choose his challenger, he is also considering a rematch with Glover Teixera
Jiri Prochazka wants to defend his UFC championship belt later this year. Since his win over Teixeira, various names have been dropped as to who he will face, but now it looks like he may choose his own challenger. Who is he considering?
Jiri Prochazka wants to defend his UFC championship belt later this year. Since his win over Teixeira, various names have been dropped as to who he will face, but now it looks like he may choose his own challenger. Who is he considering?
Jiri Prochazka is the reigning UFC welterweight champion, but there was still no certain key to selecting his next opponent.
Dana White had a definite idea, but after meeting Procházka, he apparently changed his mind and decided to give the Czech fighter a relatively free hand.
In fact, Procházka mentioned in an interview with YouTuber The Schmo that he was deciding who he would choose and whether he would give Glover Teixeira a chance.
“Like I said, I’m going to have to make a decision on my next fight. I’m thinking about making an offer to Glover, that we would have a rematch or I would fight Janko. I think Jan is a bigger challenge but Glover put on a great performance and for that you have to give him respect and credit.
Well, we’ll see. They’re both at the top of the division, so they definitely deserve a fight. I’m in a position now where I can talk to the UFC brass and discuss what’s going to happen. Together we’re trying to come to a decision. That’s currently in the works,” he said.
So the pairing of Magomed Ankalav and Anthony Smith will likely have to wait. So the most likely option now is Jan Blachowicz.
Teixeira is unlikely to make the fight this year and has offered a date in January at the earliest, and in Brazil at that, so it is questionable whether Procházka will want to wait.
