Another chance? Peñaz may fight for UFC again, already knows opponent and date

It is not news that Matěj Peňáz is a great talent. After all, last year he got a chance to fight his way into the UFC after only two years in professional MMA. He failed, but this year he should get another opportunity.
Still only twenty-six years old, the Moravian fighter has already managed to work his way to the top of the Octagon. He hasn’t lost in the biggest Czechoslovak MMA organization yet and it is possible that it will stay that way for a few more years.
Matej Peňáz is currently 7-0 in the Octagon. His only career loss came in Dana White’s Contender Series last year. When he fought for a UFC contract, he ran into a guillotine in the first round and Sedriques Dumas stopped the fight.
After the loss, Peñaz returned to his home organization and made amends against Joel Dos Santos. Moreover, it was to be the last fight before the expected and fan-wanted duel with Vlast Chep.
However, Peňáz was seriously injured during the preparation for the fight and now he is still recovering. Čepo will face another opponent in Bratislava at the end of April and according to the latest information it seems that his fight with the Moravian star may not happen at all.
In fact, manager Ondrej Majercik revealed that there is still interest in Peñaz in the UFC. That’s no surprise. He said after Peňáz’s loss to Contender that the talented fighter could be two or three wins away from another chance.
In the end, apparently one was enough. “Big things are happening around him again. We’ve been contacted by the UFC again. Management wants to see him in the Contender Series again,” Majercik told MMA Shorties.
“We already have an August date and opponent on the table, which is a very good stand-up guy and a champion of an organization that is known mainly in the US. I don’t want to get more specific yet, but Matej has a date and an opponent. The UFC would simply love to see him in Contender again,” he added.
