When the WTA announced the match of the year poll on Twitter, it was clear after a while which match would be the winner. The one between Barbora Krejcikova and Poland’s Iga Swiatek from the final of the indoor tournament in Ostrava.

Another award for great work can warm Barbara Krejcikova. Her marathon match with world number one Šwiatek received over 70 percent of the votes in the poll. The match had to be decided by the third set (5::7, 7::6, 6::3).

The nomination also included the final match from Strasbourg between Angelique Kerber and Kaja Juvan, or the final of the tournament in Monterrey, Mexico between Leylah Fernandez and Camila Osorio.

The match in Ostrava, which lasted more than three hours, had a happy ending for the Czech player, who scored her second consecutive victory at the WTA tournament.

Before that, Krejcikova managed to win the event in Tallinn, Estonia. It was a huge success for the 26-year-old from Brno, as the reigning world number one Šwiateková lost in the final match for the first time since April 2019.

And it’s not the only prize Krejcikova will receive. She is also likely to win the doubles pair of the year poll, as she and Kateryna Siniakova managed to dominate three Grand Slam tournaments together.

Linda Fruhvirtová, one of the great hopes of Czech women’s tennis, has also been nominated for the Rookie of the Year award.
