Petr Cech has had an incredible career. Much of it has been spent in England, specifically London. He made history at Chelsea, but ended his career at Arsenal. Now he’s only the second goalkeeper to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Petr Cech has had an incredible career. Much of it has been spent in England, specifically London. He made history at Chelsea, but ended his career at Arsenal. Now he’s only the second goalkeeper to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The transfer from Rennes to Chelsea took place in the summer of 2004. The native of Plzeň started playing in the starting line-up almost immediately. During his time at Stamford Bridge, he made a total of 494 starts, during which he kept a clean sheet on 228 occasions.
With the Blues he won the Champions League, Europa League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup and Community Shield. In 2015, he moved to Arsenal as he was already sitting only on the substitutes’ bench at Chelsea.
He managed to play another 110 league matches at the Emirates Stadium, in which he found no defeat on 41 occasions. In total, therefore, he has 202 clean sheets, which is sovereignly the highest number of all Premier League goalkeepers.
It is no wonder then that Petr Cech has been selected for the Hall of Fame. Of the goalkeepers, only former Danish international Peter Schmeichel, whom we may remember from his time at Manchester United, is already here.
“Being in the Hall of Fame of the best league in the world is a great honour. It really means something. I am pleased that my performances throughout my career have been appreciated by the fans themselves,” said Petr Čech.
“I am proud of the individual records I have broken. But I was always happier when it led to team successes and titles,” added the legendary goalkeeper.
Rio Ferdinand and Tony Adams also made their way into the Hall of Fame. In the past, fans have voted for Didier Drogba, Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.
From 2023, there is also a new vote for coaches. Fans chose Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson.
