Ankalaev got an important win. Is it Procházka’s turn? It’s up to the UFC. He’s great, but I’ll run him over, the Dagestani is clear
9 wins in a row? A streak that not everyone can reach. But Magomed Ankalaev has done it in the UFC and is once again challenging for a title fight. His opponent could be Jiri Prochazka. What did Ankalaev have to say at the press conference after his important victory?
9 wins in a row? A streak that not everyone can reach. But Magomed Ankalaev has done it in the UFC and is once again challenging for a title fight. His opponent could be Jiri Prochazka. What did Ankalaev have to say at the press conference after his important victory?
Prochazka wants a rematch with Teixeira
Glover Teixeira became champion when he surprisingly defeated Jan Blachowicz. However, he didn’t make the first defence when he was beaten by Jiri Procházka in an incredible fight with half a minute to go.
Procházka would probably lose on points. He had to stop the fight. And he did. He became the first fighter ever to finish Teixeira on a submission. And on the Brazilian’s favorite technique. But he wants a rematch, because he doesn’t feel his performance was convincing enough.
However, prior to the Teixeira vs. Prochazka bout, UFC boss Dana White stated that the winner of Ankalaev vs. Smith would be the next title challenger. However, White likes Prochazka’s approach and the idea of a rematch with Teixeira. So nothing is certain.
In order for Magomed Ankalaev to be the first challenger to the Moravian fighter, he had to make Anthony Smith’s performance as convincing and entertaining as possible. But he beat him also because Smith got injured. And would he put on a show like Prochazka? No, he didn’t.
Ankalaev doesn’t push the UFC, but he’s confident in Prochazka
Ankalaev now boasts a streak of 9 straight wins, but he’s often criticized for his unattractive style. On the other hand, each fight gets more and more important. One can understand that he tries to stick strictly to tactics and not take risks.
He’s been asking for a title fight for some time now. But he didn’t push again at the press conference. “If the UFC listens to me, I’ll be just happy. But I’m definitely not pushing for anything. I’ll wait to see what the management offers and we’ll see,” the Dagestani let it be known.
“I saw Prochazka’s last fight with Teixeira and I have to admit he’s a great fighter. But I will prepare for him and then I will run him over,” Ankalaev added.
Among other things, Ankalaev is aware of his winning streak. So he didn’t forget to remind that Prochazka fought for the title after two wins in the UFC, while he hasn’t gotten a chance to fight for the title yet.
However, if there were to be a rematch between Prochazka and Teixeira, he would not take the role of understudy, unlike Prochazka. The Moravian fighter was an alternate for Teixeira’s fight with Blachowicz. Ankalaev would rather prepare for a specific opponent.
