Andy Murray will miss the entire clay court season, including the French Open

Andy Murray will miss the entire clay court part of this season and will not participate in the 2nd Grand Slam of the season – French Open. Instead, the former world number one wants to focus on the grass part of the season, the highlight of which will be the famous Wimbledon.

The Scottish tennis player will miss the French Open for the second time in a row, he did not compete in the last edition. The Paris Grand Slam starts on May 22 and will last until June 5. Murray will also miss the entire clay spring, which will begin with a tournament in Monte Carlo.

The winner of three Grand Slams, who is trying to return to the elite after repeated hip surgeries, decided to avoid clay as a precaution. “I’m not going to play on clay, it’s only made my problems worse in recent years and I’m not going to take any chances now,” Murray told Britain’s BBC.

The British tennis player is trying to return to the elite at the age of 34. He has fallen out of the elite 100 due to repeated health problems and is currently ranked 102nd in the rankings.

Murray also admitted that he could appear in clay tournaments in the future. “It’s not that I can’t play on clay in the future. I almost missed Wimbledon last season and the whole grass season. It all depends on my health.”

“I will play a few tournaments in this part of the season, then I won’t do anything, that’s my plan now. I had a busy end of last year and the next few months. I’m not going to take any chances and hopefully I can get ready for the grass season,” Murray added.

The British tennis player last played at the Australian Open, where he fell in the second round to Japan’s Daniel. This week he will play in an indoor tournament in Rotterdam.
