One of Barcelona’s biggest icons Andrés Iniesta has confirmed his long-term interest in returning to the Catalan capital. He could thus build on his successes from 2002 to 2018. In the past, he managed to form a legendary duo with Xavi. When they were then joined by the younger Sergio Busquets, one of the best midfield lines the world has ever seen was formed.
In 2018, Iniesta unfortunately had to move from Barcelona to Japan’s Vissel Kobe. The now 37-year-old midfielder won La Liga 10 times and the Champions League 4 times during his time at Barcelona, and he also enjoyed success with the national team between 2008 and 2012.
The legendary playmaker has confided that he would like to return to Barcelona after his playing career is over to build on his successful time in a Blaugranas jersey.
“To return to Barcelona is a great desire of mine. I would like it tocome true because I love the club and I have spent so many years there,” Iniesta expressed.
“You never know what will happen in the future. You never know what position at the club I could eventually return to, or who will be managing the club at that time,” continued the Barcelona legend.
“There are a lot of factors at play that make it difficult to predict what will happen. But if you ask me if I would like to, my answer is yes,” Iniesta concluded his statement.
However, despite his desire to return to Barcelona, Iniesta confirmed that he does not want to hang up his cleats just yet. His current contract in the J-League expires in 2023.
