Inter Miami is no longer the worst team in the MLS overseas and Lionel Messi is part of that. He made his debut in the American league last night and scored again.

Lionel Messi arrived in New York with his teammates on Saturday, but coach Gerardo Martino warned before the match against the Red Bulls, despite the advertisements in the famous Times Square, that the star might not be in the starting line-up. Nevertheless, there were many spectators who watched the match live on the local screens.

And the best footballer in history was indeed absent from the starting eleven. But anyone expecting this to spell disaster would be sorely mistaken. Even without the Barcelona legend, Inter Miami took the lead and managed to hold it.

However, it’s worth noting that the Red Bulls are the 11th worst team in the Eastern Conference this season and have 29 points after 25 games. So they are not doing much better than the team from Florida.

Miami, however, entered the game as the worst team in MLS. Although buoyed by winning the Leagues Cup trophy and the US Open Cup, they still had to be cautious. However, 20-year-old midfielder Diego Gomez opened the scoring in the 37th minute.

Of the team’s biggest stars, only Jordi Alba played the entire match. Messi, Sergio Busquets and DeAndre Yedlin only came on in the 60th minute. And the second goal of the match was waited until the 89th minute and was scored by none other than the winner of seven Ballon d’Or.

Messi himself started the combination action in front of the opposition’s sixteen, followed by his teammates including Alba, but the icing on the cake was Messi’s clash with 18-year-old Benjamin Cremaschi. Wonderful!

The commentators immediately talked about it being one of the most beautiful goals ever scored in MLS. As well, they obviously appreciate that Messi is actually playing in the United States.

Currently, the Argentine world champion has 11 goals and 3 assists in 9 games. Can he get Miami into the MLS playoffs?
