Real Madrid fans will never forget the 2021/22 season. Winning the Spanish Super Cup, dominating La Liga by 13 points, triumphing in the Champions League and finally winning the European Super Cup.
In particular, the club’s 14th Champions League title was exceptional. In fact, Real Madrid probably had the toughest road to the final in history.
In the eighth round, they faced PSG with the trio Messi, Neymar, Mbappé. In the quarter-finals they faced the defending champions, Chelsea, and in the semi-finals and final they faced arguably the best teams in the world at the time, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Los Blancos managed to knock them all out of the way and go for a historic 14th triumph. So the club has prepared a documentary for the fans, which will give you an insight into how the players prepared for each match or how they experienced the famous victories.
The documentary is available on Apple TV and fans were quite interested in the reaction of coach Carlo Ancelotti after the quarter-final against Chelsea. Real Madrid actually won 3-1 in the first leg in London, only to completely stop playing at home and lose 0-3, which meant they were eliminated at that point.
However, moments before the end, Luka Modric’s brilliant flick found Rodrygo to send the game into extra time. Karim Benzema was the man who shot Real into the semi-finals. But Chelsea continued to rampage and had two huge chances in the final minutes that nearly gave the home fans a heart attack.
And so did Ancelotti. The Italian coach had to breathe for a long time in the bowels of the stadium. “I’m dead, dead. Unbelievable, unbelievable,” gasped a breathless and emotionally drained Ancelotti.
“If I don’t die today, I’m immortal,” Ancelotti smiled. “But… incredible atmosphere. Thanks to everyone,” added the 63-year-old coach, who won the Champions League for the second time with Real Madrid.
