Real Madrid can add the Spanish Cup winner’s trophy to their collection on Saturday night. This gives coach Carlo Ancelotti his first opportunity to banish speculation about his future. He spoke about that, among other things, at a press conference.
Spain will play the final match of the Copa del Rey on Saturday evening. Osasuna would like to complete the sensational story and reach the trophy itself, but Real Madrid are the big favourites.
Los Blancos have already won the trophy nineteen times. Osasuna reached the final in 2005, only to lose to Betis. And they would like to win the trophy.
But Real Madrid won’t be giving it away cheaply. As well as being the favourite, it faces a lot of pressure and is in the running for the trophy itself. Since it already has an absolute minimum chance of winning the league, the cup can improve impressions of the season.
Apart from the cup, the royal team is still in the game in the Champions League, but they will face a dangerous and rampant Manchester City.
Both competitions can help to keep Carlo Ancelotti as head coach of Los Blancos. There is a lot of speculation about his future. If he does not win both trophies, he could lose his job.
But now Ancelotti himself has spoken out on his future. “My life is absolutely fine. We are playing the cup final and the semi-finals of the Champions League,” Marca quotes him as saying.
“My future is bright. I have a contract until 2024, not until tomorrow. Apart from that, I feel a huge affection from the whole club, including the president and director Jose Angel Sanchez. That’s enough for me,” added the Italian coach.
