Real Madrid are on their way to the title and on Sunday they took another important step towards it. Thanks to two goals from Rodry, they beat Athletic Bilbao on home soil. There are eight rounds of the Spanish top flight left to play. Real Madrid hold a respectable eight-point lead over second-placed Barcelona. He has the situation in his hands, but he doesn’t have an easy lot.

Los Blancos will face Barcelona in April, then the dangerous Real Sociedad, then Villarreal and Betis in the last two rounds at the end of May.

It cannot be said that Barcelona will have an easier lot. But it is not under pressure. It hasn’t spent big money on reinforcements, nor can it afford to. It´s in a much worse situation than its biggest rival in every respect. It doesn’t need anything anymore. Just to finish the season as best she can.

That’s also why it will be important for Real Madrid to have its best players available for the rest of the season, something it’s kind of struggling with. While coach Carlo Ancelotti has exceptional talent at his disposal, it’s just not easy to tame them.

Vinícius Júnior, for example, cannot keep his emotions in check, often provokes and frequently gets into arguments. Even with the referees. Because of this, he got most of his yellow cards and then a stop for the large number of them.

Jude Bellingham also expressed his dissatisfaction with the referees several times. He was even sent off for one dissent and it seems that, unlike his Brazilian teammate, he learned his lesson and Ancelotti praised him for it.

Bellingham is a quick learner, Real Madrid are trying to avoid penalties

Both Jude Bellingham (20) and Vinícius Júnior (23) are indispensable members of the starting eleven. Real Madrid need them in their quest for success. But both are still young and it’s no wonder they sometimes get carried away by too much emotion.

But the English footballer seems to be learning to work with them much better. He showed improvement in the match against Bilbao. When he was not happy with the referee’s verdict, he managed to keep his mouth shut. He just made a telling gesture and continued to concentrate on the game.

“Bellingham learned very clearly and very quickly what he had to do, which was to keep his mouth shut in front of the referees,” Carlo Ancelotti praised his charge after the game against Bilbao.
