Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are the best midfielders in their category and some of the best in history. Together, they have dominated the Champions League four times, and their performances are consistently at the top level. So, according to Ancelotti, they are not difficult to coach.

Real Madrid defeated Real Betis 2-1 on Saturday and coach Carlo Ancelotti had the luxury of a win. He spared Toni Kroos and Federico Valverde, who are otherwise part of the starting line-up, ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League match against Celtic.

It is the midfield that is extremely loaded. Aurélien Tchouaméni, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Dani Ceballos. The Italian strategist definitely has a lot to choose from, but sometimes the choice is just very difficult for the opposite reason.

“It’s complicated because you leave players on the bench who would play for any other team in the world. Today it was Kroos and Valverde, but they understand, they understand that the team is in good shape now,” Ancelotti explained in the post-match press conference.

“It is not difficult for me to convince players like Kroos and Modric because they are intelligent and humble enough. They know they are important even when they are not playing. Coaching them is the easiest thing in my career,” the experienced Italian complimented his charges.

The move with Valverde, who after the first three rounds in the starting line-up gave the place on the right wing to Rodrigue, worked out the same way. “Valverde played 20 minutes but was decisive with his assist for the winning goal,” he praised the 24-year-old midfielder.

Both are likely to be back in the starting lineup on Tuesday at Celtic Park. And Ancelotti can wring his hands over the wide squad as the Champions League is coming up which means virtually 3 games in a week. And that’s where the big rotation will come in handy.
