Ancelotti, can I have some gum? A fan asked the Real coach for his famous chewing gum, he threw it to him
Carlo Ancelotti is a well-known calm guy who doesn’t get involved in big controversies during the game. His chewing gum, which he shared with a fan during Sunday’s game, is inherent to him.
Carlo Ancelotti is a well-known calm guy who doesn’t get involved in big controversies during the game. His chewing gum, which he shared with a fan during Sunday’s game, is inherent to him.
In the past, Sir Alex Ferguson, who led Manchester United, was known for his obsession with chewing gum. You virtually never saw him in public without chewing gum, his baton has been taken up by other coaches who use it to relieve stress during matches.
Perhaps the most famous, however, is Carlo Ancelotti, whose “chicle” (Spanish for chewing gum) is famous among fans. Often you see Real Madrid score an important goal and the Italian coach pops a few pieces of chewing gum in his mouth instead of celebrating.
On Sunday, Los Blancos travelled to Bilbao to take on Athletic at the San Mames stadium. There is always a frenetic atmosphere at the very unpleasant ground and it is not easy for any team to play there.
Real Madrid led 1-0 after the first half thanks to a Benzema goal, but the home side pressed and were very uncomfortable.
As the players came on to the pitch to prepare for the second half, Ancelotti also returned to his seat. A fan sitting over the bench asked him for a piece of gum. “Dame una chicle,” the fan pleaded.
The Italian coach didn’t hesitate, fished in his pocket and handed it to the fan. Once again underlining his reputation as a very popular coach across the board.
In the end, Real Madrid won the important match 2-0 and continue to chase Barcelona at the top of the table. He will now prepare for Thursday’s Copa del Rey quarter-final against Atlético Madrid.
