An uninspiring match in Madrid was decided in Real’s favour at the end
Real Madrid won their second Champions League group stage match, beating Leipzig 2-0 at home. The visitors were at least an evenly matched opponent, their chances were even greater apart from the goal scoring moments.
Real Madrid won their second Champions League group stage match, beating Leipzig 2-0 at home. The visitors were at least an evenly matched opponent, their chances were even greater apart from the goal scoring moments.
Leipzig were more active from the start. In the fifth minute, Christopher Nkunku had a great chance, but Thibaut Courtois saved it. On the other side, Brazilian Rodrygo got a chance after a neat cross, but then missed the goal.
In the 28th minute, Nkunku had a second great opportunity, but this time he didn’t get the ball past Courtois either. The visitors continued to be more active, showing good energy after their weekend win over Dortmund.
Real responded in the 41st minute, but Luka Modric’s shot did not go between the three posts. The game was scoreless going into the final whistle.
After the change of sides, the match became more and more heated, but apart from the hardness it was rather boring. Chances on both sides were minimal, the home side clearly missing Karim Benzema.
It was not until the 72nd minute that Vinicius was alone in front of the goalkeeper, but only hit his body. Seven minutes later, the stands were celebrating. Federico Valverde gave Peter Gulacsi no chance after a good individual effort from Vinicius.
Marco Asensio added an insurance goal from the edge of the box to give Real Madrid a 2-0 lead in the table. Leipzig, on the other hand, are last with zero.
