He is one of the biggest stars of the UFC, his fights are usually a guarantee of attractive spectacle, after his career he will certainly be in the UFC Hall of Fame, but one thing is missing. A legitimate title. Dustin Poirier can’t and won’t get it. Will he move up in weight for this?

Dustin Poirier is coming off a tough loss. In the rematch, he fell short to Justin Gaethje, who is tied 1-1. He was better in the first round of the fight, however his opponent pulled away in the second round with a great headkick that spelled the end.

While Gaethje came close to getting a chance to fight for the title again, Poirier would have to wait a while and fight his way back to the challenger’s position. However, he already says he is mainly interested in big fights. He has nothing to prove to anyone, but he deserves a title shot.

So far, he’s only held the interim one. He’s not even close to becoming the rightful champion. He got Khabib Nurmagomedov in trouble, but couldn’t finish the choke and had to tap out himself a few moments later.

So what’s next? Poirier is looking for more challenges and has hinted at changing weight classes. He is expected to move up from lightweight to welterweight, which offers a variety of interesting and attractive fights.

Even the first fighter who would like to fight the American has come forward right away. Shavkat Rakhmonov, one of the most attractive fighters in the welterweight division and number six in that weight class, responded to Diamond’s words.

It would be a very interesting duel and would definitely entertain. And to see Poirier fight the likes of Kamaru Usman, Colby Covington, Gilbert Burns and champion Leon Edwards? Very tempting thought.

Poirier would deserve to go for the title. But the question is whether he’ll have an easier time in the welterweight division.
