An inconvenience for Manchester United. Coach Erik ten Hag has a limited budget. You want more? Then sell, he heard from the club’s management

Coach Erik ten Hag has had a largely successful first season on the bench of the English big club. Manchester United has a lot to build on, but there is still room for improvement. The transfer window should have helped, but there is a catch. The Dutch strategist has very limited options.

Manchester United managed to finish third in the Premier League last season, reached the FA Cup final and even won the Carabao Cup. Erik ten Hag has thus started his engagement at Old Trafford with mixed success.

However, it was more than evident that the rebuilding of the team he had started was far from over. There are still changes to be made, some players to get rid of, others to buy. So the Red Devils should have been quite active in the transfer market.

But that’s not happening yet. There’s some speculation, but that’s the end of it for now. Names like Kim Min-jae, Adrien Rabiot, Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Moisés Caicedo have been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

However, according to the latest information, it is unlikely that more than one of the players listed will arrive. The reason is simple. Finance.

Not that Manchester United don’t have the money. It’s just that a potential sale of the club is currently being discussed and the infamous Glazer family, who own the club, have made their position clear.

Sky Sports reports that the coach, ten Hag, has only £100 million to spend on transfers, which is a small sum by English standards. If the Dutchman wants more, he has to resort to sales. He can then use the money to make purchases.

A year ago, Manchester United spent just over £200 million on signings and only made £11 million on departures. Clearly the club’s management does not want to tolerate a similar imbalance any longer.
