The Citizens have completed the match of the 33rd round of the Premier League, when they welcomed Arsenal London on their field. However, the direct battle for the title was clearly much better for the home side, who beat the Gunners 4-1.
Kevin de Bruyne opened the scoring in the seventh minute and the Belgian midfielder scored another goal in the second half.
John Stones scored with a header before the end of the first half. Rob Holding was the only Arsenal player to reduce the score, with Haaland making the final 4-1 in the fifth minute of stoppage time. This goal also made the Norwegian goal scorer’s name in the history of the Premier League.
Haaland scored his 33rd league goal of the season against Arsenal, breaking the previous record in the English top flight. It was held by Mohamed Salah, who netted 32 goals in 36 games for Liverpool in 2017/18.
It should be added, the Leeds native also needed significantly fewer matches to break the record, namely only 29.
Overall, Haaland has featured in 43 competitive games for Manchester City in the current season, scoring a truly impressive 49 goals and adding 8 assists on top of that.
The English team is having a really great season. So far, their championship ambitions have been looking all over the place, but with a win over Arsenal and two games to spare, they are now the favourites.
The Premier League is currently led by Arsenal with 75 points, the aforementioned Manchester are only two points behind and, above all, have two games to play. In addition, they are also well placed in the Champions League, where they will face Real Madrid in the semi-finals.
