Ondřej Kúdela has long been one of the mainstays of the back line of Slavia Prague. But last season he was plagued by injuries and when his contract was coming to an end, there was not much interest from the club to extend it.
The experienced footballer was able to find a new engagement and then came an offer that was hard to refuse. Persija Jakarta was interested in him and offered a tropical engagement with a relatively good salary.
No wonder he decided to join her. He now has over 10 games under his belt and in an interview with iSport, he spoke about what the Indonesian league is like.
“Mainly the fans come in huge numbers. Especially in our country. Thirty thousand on average, we’re always sold out. Now we had a week in advance, people are really crazy. When you go to a game, and mind you, it happened to us before the preliminary game, fans accompany us on motorbikes, scooters, they have flags, they honk, they cheer, they stop the bus quietly..
A policeman on a motorbike is in our way, but that doesn’t mean anything. People block the bus, start cheering, honking, showing the “yakmania” gesture (pointing fingers). They are proud, loyal, devoted, terrible fanatics. They really enjoy it, it’s an incredible engagement from that point of view.
It’s a madhouse, but more enjoyable than having no one coming at you. I don’t think I’ve ever had 30,000 people come to see me in our league. Ican’t complain in that regard,” Kudel said.
He has the highest goals with his squad, which of course is the title. However, it is certainly not easy, they are currently in fourth place, with Madura United leading the league, followed by PSM Makassar and Bali United in third place.
“The league is very technical, a bit tactical. The foreigners are more mature, they add value to the competition. The local boys have excellent technique, they can do great things with the ball, they can handle one-on-one duels, they are agile, they are terribly fast. It’s a rush. You won’t find one Jirka Sor here, there are many more. They don’t defend much, tactically it’s different,” he added.
Now he can take a short break from Indonesia. He is headed to the national team meeting, where he will play a home game against Portugal in Eden and then an away game against Switzerland.
