The opening match of the Champions League quarter-finals ended 3-3 and we witnessed a world-class match, but it was a different story in the rematch. Real Madrid came to defend and a win would have been more of a surprise.

He was leading in the match, but the Citizens then equalised and as regulation time ended 1: 1, it went to extra time. Even in it only City played, but they didn’t convert their chances and it came to penalty kicks, after which Real could celebrate.

One of the penalty kicks was converted by Jude Bellingham, one of Real’s best players, who holds out hope for the precious Champions League trophy for which he came to the club from the Spanish capital.

Bellingham after his progress

“My legs were pretty dead at the end. Winning the game is a huge reward. I’m really grateful that I can wear the Real Madrid emblem on my chest every day.

I never dreamed of something like this, I hope there will be more nights like this. When you come to a club like Real Madrid, you have to accept that you will be criticised, you have to accept that you will be under scrutiny.

If you are here, it means you can handle it. It was the first day my brother Jobe saw me play for Madrid. I’m really proud of things like that!” said Bellingham after the penalty kicks.

Bellingham can now look forward to the semifinals, in which Real will take on Bayern Munich, who drew away to Arsenal and won narrowly 1-0 at home when Joshua Kimmich scored.
