Serie A had its second round this weekend and it was in the second round of the Italian top competition that Atalanta Bergamo and AC Milan clashed. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Ismaël Bennacer scoring for the reigning champions.
Looking at the statistics, the Rossoneri were quite clearly the better team, which was also reflected in the image of the game. AC Milan, as usual, had more possession of the ball and therefore had more of the play.
However, in terms of offensive activity, Stefano Pioli’s charges were not particularly imaginative, apart from a few chances or hints of bigger scoring opportunities.
The home team’s players showed even less, producing only two shots on Mike Maignan’s goal in the whole match. However, even this number was enough for Atalanta to score at least once in the match.
In the 29th minute, Ruslan Malinovsky had the home team’s first serious chance, with a great pass into the penalty area from Joakim Maehle. Although the shot was affected by a slight touch of one of the AC players, Malinovsky still made a nice football moment.
But an even more beautiful goal was scored by Bennacer in the second half, specifically in the 68th minute. The 24-year-old Algerian equalised the match at 1-1.
AC Milan then had more chances later in the second half, but none of them led to a goal. Not even Divoc Origi’s seemingly serious chance in the 80th minute.
The Belgian striker wriggled his way to within touching distance of the Atalanta goalkeeper, but one of the defenders prevented what was probably a goal-scoring shot with a perfectly timed slide.
The Rossoneri thus take one point from Bergamo after their opening win over Udinese (4: 2) for a 1: 1 draw. AC Milan are currently third in the table, but have two more games to play in Serie A.
Today, Monday 22nd August, fans will see two matches – AS Roma will welcome Cremonese at home, Sampdoria will host Juventus.
