Alves: I wouldn’t spend that much money on Haaland, but I would on Mbappé. He is much more complex and the best fit for Barcelona
Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland are the two future kings of world football. But which one is better? And which one would you choose for your team? Dani Alves is clear on that.
Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland are the two future kings of world football. But which one is better? And which one would you choose for your team? Dani Alves is clear on that.
The era of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi is slowly but surely coming to an end. Their places at the top are slowly being taken over by younger and hungrier footballers. Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé are being anointed as the new kings.
While the latter is almost certain to leave for Real Madrid, Haaland’s future is still unknown. Manchester City? Real Madrid? Barcelona? Bayern Munich?
And what would Barcelona defender Dani Alves have to say about a possible teammate? He would prefer to welcome the French speedster.
“I wouldn’t give that kind of money for Haaland. Honestly, I wouldn’t give much money for him. For Mbappé, yes, but not for Haaland. I find him much more complex in all aspects. If you spend a big amount, you have to spend it on the best,” Alves told Mundo Deportivo.
“He is the best now and suited to Barcelona’s style. At the moment, in football, there is no better player than him,” the 38-year-old defender paid tribute to Mbappe.
The big advantage for Mbappé is that his contract expires in the summer and he will be available for free. Of course, the club will have to push all the harder for a contract and bonuses for both player and agent.
But even Haaland won’t cost that much by today’s standards. His buyout clause is €75m, which is a great deal compared to the amounts for Neymar (€220m), Coutinho, Dembélé or Hazard (€115m). Especially considering that the Norwegian striker is only 21 years old.
