Enough is enough! It’s unbelievable, let them decide once and for all, rages the Bianconeri coach.
Juventus lost 1: 4 at the Empoli ground in Monday’s match and the current situation in the Serie A table does not look good for them. The home side opened the scoring when Francesco Caputo scored from the penalty spot in the 18th minute.
Three minutes later, Sebastiano Luperto added a second goal and the match was not going well for the Bianconeri. In the second half they had a bit more of the game, but their efforts did not lead to an equaliser. On the contrary.
As early as the 48th minute Caputo reasserted himself, only to be reduced to a two-goal difference by Federico Chiesa on the stroke of the 85th minute. Moreover, Empoli added a fourth goal at the end when Roberto Piccoli made his second consecutive appearance in the goal scoring stats.
The current situation in the Serie A table does not look good for the Bianconeri. After a ten-point deduction, Juventus are only seventh with 59 points, five points behind fourth-placed AC. It is this position that serves as the last Champions League berth for next season.
It should be noted, we wrote in more detail about Juventus’ nightmare in a previous article. In any case, the coach of the Turin team Massimiliano Allegri reacted to everything after the match with Empoli.
We found out about the penalty 10 minutes before the game
Juventus members learned about the Court of Appeal’s decision on the points deduction just minutes before they took the field at the Stadio Castellani.
“Of course it was a strange situation that the ruling came ten minutes before we went out. We cashed in on their first scoring opportunity, then we cashed in on another. We had chances to reduce it, but we didn’t take them,” Allegri told DAZN, whose words were also quoted by Football Italia.
“But that doesn’t justify the mental collapse. At the moment, we can only remain calm and accept defeat. Even after the ten-point penalty, if we win today we would have a chance to fight Milan for the Champions League. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out that way,” the Juventus coach is clear.
“I can’t fault the boys, it’s not an easy situation. We were knocked out of the Europa League, then ten minutes before kick-off we got the news, while for three months they took and gave us back points. I can assure you that the team did the best it could under the circumstances,” Allegri defends his players.
The psychological aspect
In his post-match interview, coach Allegri referred mainly to the psychological effects stemming from the whole situation. According to him, the players simply had a hard time on the pitch and it is therefore right to stand up for them.
“The psychological aspect is crucial in football. 15 minutes before the game we were second in the table with 69 points. That’s a completely different situation than being five points behind fifth-placed Milan. You go on the pitch and you have to win, to make up for that loss again. Every time we stick our head out and take a breath, we get knocked back down,” he said.
Allegri’s and the club’s future
How did coach Allegri answer the question of whether he would stay at the club despite not playing European Cups?
“It would be cowardly if I left now. I don’t know if they will even allow us to play the Europa League, we have to wait and see. I want to stress that Juventus deserved their second place on the pitch. It’s a lack of respect for the people who work here, the players and the coaches. I’m not telling them how to decide, I’m just asking them to decide once and for all. It’s unbelievable and it’s enough,” he concluded.
