There’s a lot at stake in the Paul vs. Fury boxing match
Twice it didn’t work out, and for the third time perhaps nothing will stand in the way of a fight between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury. There is a lot at stake, on the one hand the desire for respect, on the other the career of a professional boxer.
In a way, American youtuber Jake Paul has nothing to lose. He has only been fully committed to boxing for three years and the pressure on him is certainly less. By fighting the younger brother of undefeated legend Tyson Fury, he wants to earn the respect of the fighting world.
the ‘problem child’ is often met with criticism of his person. Haters blamed him especially for the fact that he hasn’t practically boxed with a real boxer and he mostly chooses retired MMA fighters and moreover with a smaller physique.
But that’s certainly not true of Tommy Fury. the 23-year-old Brit comes from a famous boxing family and has been boxing practically since childhood. Just like the younger of the Paul brothers, he still hasn’t tasted the bitterness of defeat and the first loss to a fighter with a YouTuber label would be a deep blow to his future career.
The fight took on an even spicier flavour
His father and well-known rabble-rouser John Fury, who has boxed in fights without gloves in the past, even threatened that Tommy could stay in Saudi Arabia if he lost. There was a press conference yesterday, attended by Fury’s star brother Tyson, and it was certainly something to watch.
Both men were feeling confident during the interviews and when Fury said he would finish his opponent by the fourth round, Paul came up with an interesting suggestion. “If you’re so confident, let’s make a bet,” Paul countered.
“If you actually win, you’ll get double what you’re supposed to earn. But if you lose, you get nothing at all, ” he said, standing up and offering his hand to his opponent. How did Fury react?
It was obvious the young boxer was not keen on the bet and advised Paul to sit down. However, then his father John stepped in to the whole situation. “You have an all or nothing offer on the table,” he urged his son, who eventually accepted.
After an intense handshake that almost ended in a shoving match, there was a mutual staredown, but it was quite calm. The match got even spicier and the fans can look forward to a real war.
The duel will take place on Sunday around 8 p.m. CET. Unfortunately, no local TV stations are broadcasting it. So in case you want to watch in a legal way, you have to pay for the PPV broadcast, which at around 500+ CZK for European viewers has been much criticized by fans.
