The first round of the tennis tournament in Rotterdam will offer an extremely interesting match between Alexander Bublik and Andy Murray. Although the British player is considered to be a slight favourite in the match, he is certainly not expecting anything easy.
Alexander Bublik is a 24-year-old tennis player from Kazakhstan. Last week, he managed to dominate the tournament in Montpellier, France, thanks to which he moved up to 31st place on the ATP ranking. He improved his career best.
After a disappointing start to the season, when Bublik had to say goodbye to the Australian Open in the second round, the Gatchina native got on a winning streak. He took on Griekspoor, Herbert, Bautista-Agut, Krajinovic and Zverev on his way to the trophy.
His opponent on Wednesday will be Andy Murray, a thirty-four-year-old tennis player from Great Britain. Due to frequent health complications, the former world number one is currently at the tail end of the elite 100, specifically at number 94.
Murray entered 2022 with a loss to Bagnis. However, he improved his mood at the Sydney tournament, where he made it to the final. There, however, he fell short to No. 1 seed Aslan Karatsev. At the Australian Open, he lost in the second round to Japan’s Daniel.
Andy Murray is the slight favourite for Wednesday’s match, as he starts in Rotterdam on a wild card. The Glasgow native has won their only meeting so far, but that dates back to 2017.
If Bublik can build on last week’s performance, he’ll have a great chance of reaching the eighth round. The outcome of the match can be decided in the first set – if Murray wins it, he will win the whole match in 93.4%.
