Alex King has had an interesting year. He played for Schalke, one of the biggest clubs in Germany, but despite good performances he didn’t help the team stay among the elite. However, he will stay in the country. He’s just changing teams and will play in the Champions League.
The 25-year-old Czech international has a big challenge ahead of him. He has a broken contract at Spartak Moscow in Russia, where he does not want to return, and after leaving Russia, he will have a third engagement.
After stints at West Ham, where he did not do well, and Schalke, where he impressed, Alex King is now moving to Berlin, where he will defend the colours of the local Union. A team that is doing very well after being promoted to the German elite.
Union boasts a great systematic work and thanks to that they can compete with the richer teams not only in Germany but also in Europe. This season, they finished fourth in the Bundesliga and will now face the Champions League for the first time in their history.
The King therefore has a big challenge ahead of him, but it is certainly more pleasant than it was last season. He may have to fight a bit harder for a place, but he should definitely not be facing any rescue mission.
The Czech midfielder took some time to get used to the top German league after arriving at Schalke, but he eventually worked his way up to a key player and won the hearts of the Royal Blues fans. It was his performances that earned him the interest of the Union.
“With Alex, we are acquiring a Czech national team player who will fit perfectly into our team thanks to his intense playing style, technical skills and great mentality. We are very excited about him and we are happy to have acquired him,” director Oliver Ruhnert told the club’s website.
“It’s an important step for me. Since I have already had the opportunity to get to know the Bundesliga well, it won’t be hard to get used to it. The development of the Union in recent years has been incredible and impressive. I am really looking forward to the team and the whole club.”
