Alex King shines against Manchester United! How does the prestigious site rate him and what are the fans saying?
A dream debut! That’s how you can sum up King’s first performance in a West Ham jersey. The Hammers won at Old Trafford for the first time since 2007 and advanced to the next round of the English League Cup. How did the pundits and fans sum up his performance?
A dream debut! That’s how you can sum up King’s first performance in a West Ham jersey. The Hammers won at Old Trafford for the first time since 2007 and advanced to the next round of the English League Cup. How did the pundits and fans sum up his performance?
According to the prestigious WhoScored, Alex King was the best midfielder of the match, receiving a rating of 7.74! That’s the second best performance of the match ever after West Ham goalkeeper Areola (8.18).
As for his ball play, he wasn’t in the game much and his passing percentage wasn’t great either. It’s just that King was probably given mainly defensive duties by manager David Moyes and the experienced Mark Noble (92% pass success rate) was supposed to take care of the midfield.
He intercepted some very dangerous final and forward passes from the home stars in the second half and his action radius was really big, running around as much as he could and successfully filling important spaces in front of his own penalty area.
With this performance, Alex King at the very least asked for another start in the English League Cup! And it would be worth it, because the Hammers will meet Manchester City in the eighth round.
Fan reaction
“Thank you for leaving everything on the pitch Alex. All we want is for the players to give 100% and love our jersey. We don’t need Messi, we don’t need Ronaldo we just need passion and honour.”
“Great performance Alex. Incredible debut. We love you already. Please, before you leave Old Trafford, don’t forget to take Van de Beek out of your pocket.”
King’s Twitter feed is literally overflowing with similar messages and fans can’t get enough of him. His performance and debut are highly appreciated and praised. On one of West Ham’s biggest fan sites, there were even slightly more critical voices.
“Bad tackler, but a great defensive player.”
“He played it well. But he needs more time on the pitch and in the gym.”
