Alex King continues to be in the Schalke starting line-up. The club is picking up form in the fight for salvation and the Czech footballer is winning praise
The fate of the Westphalian club seemed to be decided and after an incredibly poor autumn performance they will return to the second league after a year. Now it seems that everything could be different.
The fate of the Westphalian club seemed to be decided and after an incredibly poor autumn performance they will return to the second league after a year. Now it seems that everything could be different.
Schalke 04 have certainly not had an ideal autumn. After their promotion to the German elite, the fans had high expectations and none of them would have imagined in their worst dreams that the club would be in last place in the table with only nine points.
It wasn’t easy for the Czech footballer either. Alex Král, after an unsuccessful loan spell at West Ham, hoped to get his career back on track in Germany.
He secured his place in the line-up, but overall he was a misery for the whole club. Schalke were clear candidates for relegation back to the second tier. With the stroke of the new year, everything is different and the club is now only one point off the places guaranteeing salvation in the league.
The club from Westphalia lost their first two games this season, accompanied by an unflattering record of nine goals conceded. King did not take part in either of these matches.
After the return of the Czech international, a run of seven games without a loss followed. Five draws, two wins and a total of 11 incredibly important points.
“I saw the last game in a positive light. He is tireless. He has a high pace of play. He’s strong in fights, both on the ground and in the air. He’s going into the opponent’s territory more often,” one fan tweeted.
Alex King has played six of the last seven games in the starting lineup and he has also had a big impact on his team’s much improved performance.
In total, King has played in nineteen out of twenty-four games this season. Schalke still have ten rounds to go to save themselves in the top flight.
