Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs. Taylor Fritz: Preview and betting tips

The opening quarter-final of the tournament in Monte Carlo will have a very interesting line-up. Probably most tennis fans were expecting a duel between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, but both of them have already found their conquerors. Instead, we’re going to see Alejandro Davidovich Fokina take on Taylor Fritz.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is currently 46th in the ATP rankings. However, if he were to dominate Friday’s match, he would move up to 32nd, which is also his career high.

It is probably not a big surprise that clay is the most popular surface for the 22-year-old Spaniard. In Monte Carlo, he took on both Giron and Goffin in two sets. However, the scalp of world number one Novak Djokovic is particularly noteworthy. He defeated the Serbian tennis player after sets 6::3, 6::7 and 6::1.

But he proved that the conditions in Monte Carlo suit him already a year ago. He was able to find a recipe for Alex De Minaur, Matteo Berrettini and Lucas Pouille in that environment. He had to abandon his quarter-final match with Stefanos Tsitsipas, the later winner of the event, for health reasons at 5:7.

His opponent on Friday will be Taylor Fritz. The twenty-two-year-old American tennis player is ranked thirteenth in the ATP rankings. He has already recorded twenty victories in the calendar year 2022, even dominating the prestigious tournament in Indian Wells. Players such as Andrey Rublev and Rafael Nadal have stood in his way.

He can also perform very well on clay. Although he lost to Lucas Catarina in the opening round, he managed to turn around the unfavourable course of the match and enjoyed the progress. Subsequently, he also defeated Marin Cilic and Sebastian Korda.

So what to bet on? The paper favourite of the match will be the American, whose big advantage is his serve. Davidovich Fokina’s serve should therefore be more in play, which could also decide who makes it through to the semi-finals.
