Albert Ramos-Vinolas celebrated his 34th birthday in January. Despite this, he continues to be among the world’s top players, and can currently be found at number 40 in the ATP rankings.
His favourite surface is clay, where he has won all his trophies to date. In 2019, he even conquered the Gstaad event. This year, he would certainly like to follow that up, but given the stellar line-up, nothing easy awaits him.
Last week, Ramos-Vinolas played a tournament in Bastad, Sweden. In the first round, he had no major difficulties with qualifier Etcheverry after 6:3 and 6:3 sets. In the second round, however, his compatriot Carreno-Busta was too much for him, but he did his best to win (4::6, 7::6 and 7::5).
On Thursday, his opponent will be the 19-year-old Austrian Dominic Stricker. He is currently 180th on the ATP rankings, but we can expect a rapid rise in the near future.
Stricker is one of the biggest talents on the ATP circuit. However, clay is not one of his favourite surfaces, he played nine matches on it this year and won only three times. His biggest weapon is his excellent serve.
It is understandable that the Spaniard is the favourite in the first meeting between these players. If he puts in one of his usual performances, he should enjoy a top eight finish.
