Alaba’s transfer to Real Madrid should never have happened, Rummenigge regrets his loss
As they say, it’s only when you lose someone that you know how important they were to you. And that’s exactly the case for David Alaba, who headed to Real Madrid this summer to try a new challenge, for free. This is now regretted not only by Bayern Munich, but especially by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Alaba spent 13 long years at Bayern Munich before heading to Spain. What’s very unusual about this footballer is the fact that the highest transfer fee he was paid was 150,000 euros, which Bayern paid to Austria Wien in 2008.
However, since that transfer, the Austrian all-rounder has spent virtually his entire career in Munich until this summer. Only in 2011 did he go on a six-month loan to Hoffenheim.
“I think everyone agrees that this transfer should never have happened. Don’t forget that the kid grew up at Bayern Munich. He played there for 13 years and has always been part of Bayern’s DNA,” Rummenigge told Sky90.
He has played 431 games for Germany’s most successful A-team, including 33 goals and 55 assists. However, he was mainly valid for his versatility, as you would be hard pressed to find a weakness in Alab!
He’ll play great on the left side of defence, at stopper and in midfield. However, he is also often used in attacking positions in the Austrian national team.
“I think we have done absolutely everything to keep Alaba. Unfortunately, at a certain point the whole thing got stuck and he made the decision to leave the club because he obviously had a very interesting offer from Real Madrid,” the fourth top scorer in the history of the Bavarian national team concluded.
How great a footballer Alaba is, he is now also proving at Real Madrid, where he is one of the best players in the team, definitely among the defenders. He is of course helped enormously by the trio of midfielders Kroos, Casemiro and Modric.
Thanks to this, Real Madrid are doing great, having topped La Liga after the last league game. Then, in Wednesday’s Champions League match, they secured a place in the spring play-offs when Alaba scored one goal in a 3-0 win.
