Ajax Amsterdam, which has been enjoying a successful period in football in recent years, has been mired in scandals in recent weeks.
Ajax Amsterdam have won the league title in all three of the last three seasons of the Dutch Eredivisie. Moreover, they are also respected in European leagues.
Although they did not qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League this year, they have a five-point lead in the league and are going for a fourth league title in a row. However, the club has been attracting attention in the past week with scandals that have been more likely to be covered by the media.
After we informed you earlier this week about the inappropriate messages from sporting director Marc Overmars to Ajax’s female staff, the Dutch club has been thrown into further disrepute. Its academy player has been accused of rape.
The player in question is Donny Warmerdam, who plays for Ajax’s reserve team. According to journalist Dennis Schouten, the events took place six months ago, when the victim was 18 years old. The girl has only now reported the incident to the police.
“The girl told me that he raped her at a party six months ago,” Schouten said, according to the Marca newspaper. “She has already informed the police, she has also filed a request with the court to summon the perpetrator,” the journalist added.
The raped girl was supposed to have been at a party six months ago in Voorhout, a village in the southern part of the Netherlands. The player was supposed to be at the party.
They were supposed to kiss, whereupon the player took her to a room at the top of the building. The player allegedly wanted more than just kisses despite the girl’s resistance. He allegedly tore her panties and raped the girl.
“I’ve seen the pictures. He later forced the girl to have sex with him,” the young Dutch journalist added. The 20-year-old Warmerdam comes from the Ajax youth academy. The defensive midfielder has not yet made his debut for the first team but has already played 40 games for the reserves.
Of course, the trial hasn’t taken place yet, but it certainly doesn’t shed the best light on the team from the Netherlands after the Marc Overmars affair.
