Agüero’s shocking confession about his cardiac arrhythmia. I’m like Iron Man, he reveals

Almost two months after Sergio Agüero announced his retirement from football due to heart problems, the Argentine shared his experiences and feelings about his recent season on his Twitch channel. The whole merry-go-round was kicked off by a cardiac arrhythmia in a match against Deportivo Alavés at Camp Nou on 30 October 2021.

The first fifteen days were very bad for Sergio Agüero. “When I had the arrhythmia on Saturday, they took me to hospital. My heart was racing a bit. I thought it was just a silly thing that would pass,” he went on to explain how he experienced his hospital stay.

The former Manchester City player was taken to a specialised room with machines and monitors, where he realised he was not well. However, doctors assured him that everything was fine.

He woke up the next day without any difficulties. Hours passed, but still Kun learned nothing new. In any case, he couldn’t go home. “Then the doctor came and told me I had to stay one more night. I didn’t know what was wrong. I started to get nervous because I wanted to go home,” he continued in a frank confession.

On Monday, he woke up and a nurse came to him early in the morning and told him he had to go to a private clinic for a more thorough examination.

First they put a small tube into his groin. Then they prepared to run him through his arrhythmia attacks to see which one was most similar to the one that happened on the playground.

“The doctor told me that they were going to give me three arrhythmia attacks, I just had to say which one it was. They put plates on my chest and I thought, what am I doing here, they want to stop my heart,” Agüero described in chilling detail.

The Argentine’s story doesn’t end there. First there was the first attack, then the second. Kun suggested some similarities, but then the doctor triggered a third attack. “Then I told him to stop because it was exactly the attack,” the former Atlético Madrid and Barcelona striker described. He then went to his room, where he became dizzy and his heart started beating more again. He tried to relax to overcome it. However, the doctor reassured him that it was normal.

Agüero also recalled that they had to implant a chip in his heart. “At night I shoot coloured lights, I’m like Iron Man. I have a chip that tells the doctor when my heart is racing,” the legendary shooter explained.

Before he could call himself like the famous comic book character, the doctor had to prepare a needle and stick it in his chest. After a while, he pulled out a razor blade scalpel. It didn’t cut well, so he had to change the blade. Then he inserted a chip to ensure that if he felt symptoms, he would get feedback from the medical staff on what to do.

The announcement of his retirement

A week or ten days before this procedure, he was told that he would probably have to retire from football. He didn’t admit it to himself, but he wanted to prepare for this moment. So he travelled to Abu Dhabi, where he was out of the limelight and could have absolute peace of mind for the day he would say goodbye to his professional football career.

He was eager to share with others what had happened and how he felt. “When I saw the stairs and my chair at Camp Nou, I broke down and started to cry. I didn’t want people to see me cry, but Laporta hugged me and told me I had to come out and talk about it,” Agüero concluded the story.
