One of the best strikers of his generation and a Manchester City legend. That is the calling card of Argentine sharpshooter Sergio Aguero, who had to retire in 2021 due to heart problems.
This was after he signed for Barcelona, where he wanted to play with his friend Lionel Messi. But he left for PSG and Aguero played only five games for the Catalan side, scoring one goal.
Now on a break for more than a year, the last time fans heard from him was at the World Cup in Qatar, where Argentina won the title and Aguero was with the team, even enjoying a spectacular celebration on the pitch.
He is, however, returning to football. At the age of 34, he has signed for Barcelona again, but this time not the Catalan side. He will be heading to Ecuador, where a team from the city of Guayaquil is named after the famous European giant.
Barcelona Guayaquil is one of Ecuador’s biggest clubs, so it will be an interesting challenge for the Argentine legend after more than a year’s break. The player announced the signing on social media.
“I’m anxiously waiting to introduce myself to my new team and enjoy it. I feel good, I’ve already started training. I have a chip that controls and manages everything. Thanks to that I can play. In 15 days I will finally play,” AS.com quotes him as saying.
Aguero is historically the Premier League’s fifth top goalscorer, scoring the most goals ever in the club’s history. In total, he has 385 competitive goals and 119 assists in his career, all managed in 685 games.
