After Prochazka’s injury he refused Ankalaev! Glover Teixeira won’t show up at UFC 282

Jiri Prochazka is injured and won’t be fighting Glover Teixeira for the title in December. The Brazilian was given the option of a replacement, but declined due to the deadline. However, he still believes he will fight for at least the interim title soon.
When he heard about Jiri Prochazka’s injury, he must have been disappointed. He has been preparing for the title fight for several months and almost two weeks before the fight he knows that he will not fight.
Glover Teixeira, however, could have a fight at UFC 282. The organization wanted to keep him in the game and offered him Magomed Ankalaev.
However, he declined for obvious reasons, as it’s really last minute and Ankalaev is a completely different type of fighter.
“I told them I needed more time on this kid. He has a different style than Jiri. He’s a southpaw. I suggested to them that I could fight him in Brazil in January at UFC 283.
They told me it’s not possible, they want to fight in Vegas. I said OK, but I would have taken Blachowicz because he’s similar in style to Jiri, but again, we didn’t come to an agreement,” Teixeira told ESPN.
After negotiations, it was finally decided that the Brazilian would miss the tournament. Thus, the main match of the said tournament will be the fight between Ankalaev and Jan Blachowicz.
The winner of this match should theoretically next fight with Teixeira for the interim champion’s belt, but the division is packed and everything can still change.
However, the Brazilian believes he will get his chance. “This could have been my last chance to fight for the title. I want to win it again. I train like a maniac. I am a professional. Every time I appear in the cage, I put on a great fight.
I don’t get in there just because they tell me it can be a great fight. I always have to prepare for my opponent. There’s a lot of students watching me in the gym, my family watching me. That’s why I need to be professional. I stand 100% behind my decision,” he added.
