Czech track
The match between Garbine Muguruza and Petrova Kvitova started at 17:10 on Saturday, September 3. The Czech went into the match as the favourite despite her lower ranking. The Spaniard is in far from ideal form this year and Petra has been playing excellent tennis in recent weeks. The match had a wild development.
The first set was won by the Spaniard by 7::5. The second set Petra managed without any major problems, with only one break 3::6. The decisive part did not go well at all from the point of view of the Czech lioness. Petra was already losing 5::2, but she managed to pull the set to a tiebreak and finally succeeded 12::10! The whole match was really exciting and lasted 2 hours and 41 minutes.
On the night from Saturday to Sunday, the other Czech representative, Karolina Pliskova, made it to the eight finals. The Swiss Bencic stood in her way. Here too it was a big three-set battle and the Czech lost the first set 7::5 and the match had to be reversed.
Karolina won the second set 6::4 and the deciding set 6::3. The match was like a seesaw, it offered 25 break points, 13 double faults, 72 unforced errors, but also 17 aces, 14 of which were played by the Czech Ace Queen.
In the eighth round, the world audience will see a duel between two former world leaders. Karolina Pliskova will take on Viktoria Azarenka. Kvitova will face another tough obstacle in the form of home world number eight, Jessica Pegula.
The favorites
Serena Williams is out of the tournament after falling to Australia’s Tomljanovic. Andreescu was outplayed by Garcia. Azarenka, Pegula, Swiatek and Sabalenka are also next.
No major surprises among the men either. Medvedev, Kyrgios, Norrie, Alcaraz, and Nadal managed to win their matches 3:0. Rublev, Cilic, Sinner and Tiafoe also celebrated their progress.
There are some really interesting matches on the schedule of the eight finals, which should not be missed by the tennis spectator. The most interesting one ever will be played between Daniil Medved and Nick Kyrgios on the night of Sunday to Monday. A good match is expected from the duel Cilic vs. Alcaraz. Tiafoe will challenge Rafa Nadal.
Among the women, it will be the aforementioned duel between two former world leaders, Pliskova and Azarenka. The duel between Kvitova and the host Pegula will also be under scrutiny, as well as Danielle Collins, who will challenge Sabalenka.
