Manchester and August 28? Obviously a cursed combination for Arsenal. Exactly ten years after the debacle at Old Trafford, the Gunners suffered another debacle, this time at Manchester City.

When Manchester United beat Arsenal 8-2 on 28 August 2011, it was one of the biggest debacles in the club’s history. While the Red Devils commemorated it on social media on Saturday, the Gunners understandably did not.

Arsenal fans understandably tried to ignore any posts commemorating the debacle. Instead, they focused on the game against Manchester City. However, it was played in Manchester and the Citizens seemed to want to emulate their city rival.

At least it looked like it in the match and the result was that way. Arsenal looked pretty good from the opening whistle, but when Manchester City opened the scoring in the 7th minute, it was the beginning of the end.

The first goal was scored by Gabriel Jesus. Five minutes later, Ferran Torres made it 2-0. The Citizens began to dominate the game. Then, when Granit Xhaka was red-carded in the 35th minute after a harsh tackle and Arsenal went down to ten, the winner was more or less decided. All that was left to be seen was what the final score would be.

Two minutes before the end of the second half, Gabriel Jesus scored again to make it 3:0, a score that lasted only until the 53rd minute. Then, with a beautiful shot, Rodri made it 4:0.

Ferran Torres added the fifth and final nail in Arsenal’s coffin in the 84th minute. Arsenal lost 5: 0. The Citizens were able to enjoy a big win, but they couldn’t match their rivals.

Arsenal didn’t have a single shot on target in the match, Manchester City sent 10 shots between the three posts.
