Last year, West Ham were able to build on the performances of Tomas Soucek and Michail Antonio, while this year English winger Jarrod Bowen has maintained his long-term form. He has been on the scoresheet for ten goals in the Premier League and is asking for a loan deal at a top club.

Jarrod Bowen is a Hull City product. In his jersey in the second league in the British Isles, he became a player that teams from the second half of the Premier League table were eyeing. And in January 2020, he was snapped up by West Ham.

The Hammers fought to the penultimate round for relegation in the 2019/20 season and managed to stave off relegation thanks to Bowen. The English winger quickly adapted to Premier League football, helping to the sixteenth place with one goal and three assists.

The following season was a turning point for West Ham. He managed to qualify for the Europa League, finishing sixth, leaving Tottenham and Arsenal behind. And Bowen’s numbers? Eight goals and five assists!

It didn’t take much for Bowen to get a glimpse of the senior national team, he at least made the substitute list a couple of times, but the competition is extremely high. He is joined by Mason Greenwood, Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho.

But this season, the 25-year-old midfielder is in truly representative form. In the first four league rounds he came out point-blank, but since 19 September he has scored three times and added seven assists in sixteen Premier League games.

He is second in the assists table behind the ruler of most statistics, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Both have assisted on nine goals. In terms of points (goals + assists), only eight players in the league are better.

Bowen’s game is based on his quick feet. In partnership with Vladimir Coufal, he chases down British left backs, works the ball well and has a dangerous shooting centre. Because he’s left-footed, sharp crosses to goal (where Michail Antonio is with Tomas Soucek) are a big weapon for the Hammers.

It’s not for nothing that teams from the very top of the Premier League are interested in Bowen. Arsenal and Liverpool were already in the news last year and it is Jurgen Klopp who is showing interest in the skilful left-back this year. At the moment, he only has Salah and Sadio Mané for the wing positions.

Bowen would fit into Klopp’s system. He has excellent speed and technical ability and would definitely get enough opportunities to impress the fans in Liverpool’s demanding schedule. Moreover, he would have a much better chance of being nominated for the national team at Liverpool.

According to the Transfermarkt website, Bowen is up for grabs for £31.5 million, but West Ham will want at least ten million more for him. Even at that amount, considering his age and quality, it would be an excellent bargain for Liverpool.
