Manchester City were on Monday morning accused by the Premier League itself of not only breaching Financial Fair Play. As a result, the club has issued an official statement on its website saying it is very surprised by the accusation.

The British media came up with the information in the last few dozen minutes that the Premier League, after a four-year investigation, has accused Manchester City of multiple violations of financial rules between 2009 and 2018.

England’s top competition then said in its official statement that City had broken rules requiring it to provide accurate financial information that gives a true and fair picture of the club’s financial position.

We wrote an article about the bigger details of what all Manchester City has been accused of by the Premier League on Monday morning.

However, in short – in addition to breaching Financial Fair Play, City are guilty of another breach of the rules.

It is understood to be a breach of the rules in relation to managerial pay. This was from the 2009-10 to 2012-13 seasons when Roberto Mancini was in charge. And on player remuneration from 2010-11 to 2015-16.

So the Manchester big club broke rules related to UEFA regulations, including Financial Fair Play, from 2013-14 to 2017-18. And also Premier League rules relating to profitability and sustainability between 2015-16 and 2017-18.

The club’s official statement

So, logically, Manchester City have come up with an official statement on their official website. And it is there that they claim that the club is very surprised by the allegations.

Manchester City FC is surprised by the release of these alleged breaches of Premier League rules, particularly in light of the extensive engagement and large amount of detailed material that has been provided to the EPL,” the club’s statement reads.

“The club welcomes a review of this matter by an independent panel which will impartially consider the extensive body of hard evidence that exists to support its position. We therefore look forward to this matter being resolved once and for all,” the Manchester club said.
