The Champions League is back and in the first knockout round we can look forward to the clash between AC Milan and Tottenham. Despite the fact that both teams managed to win only three matches in this year’s group stage, they qualified among the top 16 teams.

AC Milan have managed to succeed in the Champions League on seven occasions, but their last triumph was in the 2006/2007 season. Milan managed to qualify for the knockout stage for the first time in nine seasons.

In the group stage, Milan faced Chelsea, Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb. They managed to collect 10 points and qualified from second place. Forward Olivier Giroud made a significant contribution to the progression, registering four goals and two assists.

However, this team is not in good form in the Italian Serie A at the moment. They are currently in fifth place, which may mean that there may be no Champions League next year either. The Rossoneri simply have to work hard. In the last five games they have lost three, won once and drawn once.

Tottenham have faced Frankfurt, Sporting and Marseille in the group stage this season. With 11 points, they managed to advance to the eighth round from the first place, while second-placed Frankfurt lost a point to them.

They are also significantly lower in the Premier League than they would have liked, as is the case with AC. The London side also belong to the fifth place and from their last five matches they are brimming with similar form – three defeats and two wins.

The last time these two clubs met in the Champions League was in the 2010/2011 season. After two matches, when the aggregate score was 1: 0, Tottenham enjoyed promotion. And it is this result that the Londoners would certainly like to build on.

It will be interesting to watch Giroud and Dejan Kulusevski in particular. The French striker scored four goals for Tottenham while playing for Arsenal and Chelsea. On the other hand, the Swede has started against Milan in seven games when he wore the Juventus jersey.

The match has no clear favourite, so we can look forward to a great spectacle. However, given that Milan have been losing in Serie A recently even against weaker teams, we give more chances to the visitors to win.

This is the first game in the knockout fights, and according to the latest predictions the teams will play a cautious 90 minutes. A large number of goals should not be scored.
