After the national break, club football returned to the scene and with it the dramatic battle for the Italian league title. While Napoli and Inter Milan managed to win their tough matches, AC Milan failed to get the “obligatory” three points. With seven rounds to go, who has the easier lot?
The battle for the Scudetto has once again become a little more dramatic. On Monday night, AC Milan failed to beat Bologna on their home ground with great support from their fans and only drew 0:0. They were clearly better in the match, but they did not convert their superiority into the desired goal.
Naturally, his pursuers must rejoice. Although the Rossoneri are still top of the league table with 67 points, they are just behind Napoli, who have only one point less. The team from under Vesuvius managed to beat Atalanta 3-1 at the weekend.
Inter Milan are also still in the game. Although they are four points behind their city rivals, they have a game in hand. On Sunday night, the Nerazzurri managed to beat Juventus, although their performance certainly didn’t convince anyone that they should be in the running for the title.
However, there are still seven rounds to go before the end of the season. So Juventus are not out of the game, at least mathematically, although their chances are more or less minimal. They are eight points behind the Serie A leader.
Current form
As already mentioned, there are still seven rounds to play before the end of the competition. That leaves 21 points still in play. Current form is therefore important in terms of the title fight. At the moment, Napoli and Juventus have that on their side.
If we count the last 10 rounds, then Naples is the best in Serie A, having won 7 matches and lost only once. Juventus is also doing well, having won 6 duels and lost once as well.
AC Milan are slightly worse off. Stefano Pioli’s charges won 5 matches, drew four times and lost once. The worst is its city rival, which won only 3 games and lost twice. With their current form, they are 9th in the table.
More or less similar looks the ranking of this quartet if we count only the last five duels. Juventus lost only to Inter Milan, Napoli didn’t beat AC for a change, otherwise both teams are 100%.
AC Milan have won only three times, Inter only twice. The other matches ended in draws.
Los
Apart from form, however, the lot is also important. It doesn’t look entirely good for the competition leader. From this perspective, AC Milan must regret the unnecessary loss to Bologna. In the last seven rounds, five teams from the first half of the table await them.
The best position in this respect is Inter, who have two games against teams from the top ten. Napoli and Juventus have three opponents each from the top half of the table.
Napoli and Inter, however, will have to contend with a rampant AS Roma, which has finally found stability and is one of the best teams in the competition with its form. In the derby they even beat Lazio 3-0.
AC Milan will have to contend with Fiorentina, who are capable of beating anyone this season. Lazio, Atalanta and Sassuolo will not be easy either. Moreover, Verona will want to show that their offensive football can take on even the best.
Napoli will have to face Fiorentina or Sassuolo, just like AC Milan, and AS Roma will be waiting for them.
Apart from AS Roma and Verona, Inter has no opponent in the draw that should significantly challenge it. So the Nerazzurri will be fighting mainly with themselves, as they have been in recent matches.
Juventus will have a particularly difficult finish, as they will face Lazio and Fiorentina in the last two rounds.
AC Milan’s opponents: Torino, Genoa, Lazio Rome, Fiorentina, Hellas Verona, Atalanta, Sassuolo
Naples’ opponents: Fiorentina, AS Roma, Empoli, Sassuolo, Torino, Genoa, Spezia
Inter’s opponents: Hellas Verona, Spezia, AS Roma, Bologna, Udinese, Empoli, Cagliari, Sampdoria Genoa
Juventus’ opponents: Cagliari, Bologna, Sassuolo, Venice, Genoa, Lazio Rome, Fiorentina
