AC Milan are worried about their goalkeeper! Maignan suffered a nasty injury against Newcastle, could miss several months
AC Milan only drew with Newcastle in their Champions League match on Tuesday, failing to score a single goal even after 90 minutes of clear dominance. Moreover, the Rossoneri may have lost their number one goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who forced a substitution in the 81st minute.
AC Milan only drew with Newcastle in their Champions League match on Tuesday, failing to score a single goal even after 90 minutes of clear dominance. Moreover, the Rossoneri may have lost their number one goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who forced a substitution in the 81st minute.
Sometimes the stats of a given match may not exactly match its course, but in Tuesday’s Champions League match between AC Milan and Newcastle, the opposite was true.
Expected goals stats – 2.05 for AC, 0.19 for Newcastle. Ball possession 54 percent to 46, on shots the Rossoneri also clearly won – 25 to 6. But Stefano Pioli’s charges were unable to convert any of the several big opportunities produced.
After the opening game of the regular group F, both teams have one point, but for Pioli’s team it is a significant loss. “This should have been a clear three points,” wrote AC fans on social media.
However, the Rossoneri have to settle for just one point for the goalless draw and the current third place in Group F.
And to make matters worse, AC are also worried about their number one goalkeeper. Mike Maignan forced a substitution in the 81st minute, replaced by AC’s first summer signing Marco Sportiello. As per the latest reports, the French international has reportedly suffered a bending injury.
Magnetic resonance imaging has ruled out a meniscus injury
Italian journalist Daniele Longo came up with this information, although an MRI scan ruled out a meniscus injury. According to Longo, Maignano’s condition will be monitored on a daily basis.
However, if Maignan is unable to start between the three sticks for a longer period of time, it will understandably be a significant loss for AC. Such an injury can take several months to heal.
Similar to last season, when the French international spent four months undergoing treatment on his calf. Ruben Loftus-Cheek also had to make a substitution in the match against Newcastle, but as the player later confirmed, it was only a cramp. AC Milan should be available.
