McLaren will run Brazilian colours in Monaco
Ayrton Senna is undoubtedly one of the greatest legends not only of McLaren itself, but especially of Formula 1. This year marks 30 years since the Brazilian driver’s memorable crash at the Imola circuit.
That’s the circuit where the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was held last week. However, McLaren has decided to apply its special livery for the upcoming Monaco event, which will take place from 24-26 June.
The reason is simple. Senna is the “King of Monaco” thanks to his six victories, and this is also his favourite circuit. McLaren was originally expected to go for a retro red and white livery.
But the opposite is true. The current third team in the Constructors’ Cup will use the inspiration of Senna’s then helmet and the Brazilian colours. You can take a look at those unconventional McLaren colours in the attached post below.
Needless to say, Senna is McLaren’s most successful driver, having raced for the team from 1988 to 1993, winning 35 of his 41 victories, three drivers’ championships and four constructors’ championships during his time at the Woking-based stable.
“The team is proud to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary life and legacy of Ayrton Senna through this special McLaren livery.
His impact on McLaren has been enormous, not only through his racing results, but also his presence within the team and now his legacy. We are honoured to race at his favourite circuit in his colours,” said McLaren CEO Zak Brown in an official statement.
