After the Styrian Grand Prix, we are back at the Red Bull Ring in Austria for another Formula 1 World Championship race on Sunday. Saturday’s qualifying brought not only surprising results, but also a great atmosphere on the circuit!

Saturday’s qualifying for Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix was, in a word, fantastic. Max Verstappen took pole position at the Red Bull Ring, but by just 48 thousandths of a second!

Verstappen will be joined on the front row by Lando Norris in the McLaren. The British driver shows how the track in Austria really suits him. He was the first driver to push his time below 1:04.000 in the final part of qualifying.

Above all, Norris competed against both Red Bulls on the same set of tyres as, for example, Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Pérez, the medium specification marked in yellow.

Awesome job, let’s f*****g go! Vamos!”

Third place at the start will go to Pérez ahead of Lewis Hamilton in fourth. The seven-time world champion has even been practicing on the simulator during the race weekend. But his Mercedes, despite all the data collected during the Grand Prix, failed to accelerate.

He will be followed by Valtteri Bottas, who as co-driver of the Mercedes also failed to accelerate enough in Q3. A solid time and a great position also for Pierre Gasly in the Alpha Tauri – he will start Sunday’s race from sixth position.

The Frenchman’s teammate, Yūki Tsunoda, also set a very solid time to place just behind Gasly in qualifying. This made for a really good qualifying session for Alpha Tauri. It was the Japanese driver who let it be known that after several qualifying sessions where he crashed, he has changed his approach and it really shows.

The eighth fastest time was set by Sebastian Vettel in the Aston Martin. But the German driver will face an investigation by the sports commissioners. Vettel inadvertently blocked the legendary Spaniard’s drive at the last corner of Alonso’s fast lap. Alonso only placed 14th as a result.

Amazing performance by George Russell in the Williams. The talented racer not only managed to advance to the final part of qualifying, but also improved his time in the final part of qualifying. The top ten was rounded out by Lance Stroll in the Aston Martin.

Where’s the Ferrari, you say? Unfortunately, the Italian stable continues its not-so-good performance on open tracks – Carlos Sainz will start from eleventh place, his teammate Charles Leclerc from position number 12.

Misery, misery, misery – this is how Daniel Ricciardo’s performance, it should be noted, teammate of the British talent Norris, can be described. Already in Q2 this Australian was almost half a second slower than Norris! He capped his qualifying performance by failing to qualify for Q3 and finishing 13th.

Fourteenth on the grid is Fernando Alonso, fifteenth Antonio Giovinazzi, sixteenth Kimi Räikkönen ahead of seventeenth Esteban Ocon and eighteenth Nicholas Latifi in the Williams. The entire starting field is again rounded off by the two Haas cars.

Considering the order of the grid and the performances in qualifying, we are in for an extremely attractive Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday!
