A walker? I see plenty of room for someone to come in and take the title away from him. He’s opening himself up to an opponent, Sterling thinks
Jiří Procházka is widely discussed in the MMA world. His termination of Glover Teixeira has been all over the world and now possible opponents are starting to emerge who would like to take him on. However, bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling thinks there may be a relatively easy recipe for Walk.
Jiří Procházka is widely discussed in the MMA world. His termination of Glover Teixeira has been all over the world and now possible opponents are starting to emerge who would like to take him on. However, bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling thinks there may be a relatively easy recipe for Walk.
Aljamain Sterling is the UFC’s bantamweight champion, and now on the FunkMasterMMA YouTube channel, he’s spoken out about Jiri Prochazka, who is a fresh welterweight champion.
According to Sterling, Prochazka is not unbeatable, quite the opposite. He accused him of a fighting style that gives his opponent many opportunities to threaten him.
“In terms of ability, I see plenty of room for someone to come in and take the title from Jiri. He’s obviously ferocious and damn tough and tough, but he might not have much success with that style in this particular weight class, where it literally takes one punch to end it.
We’re talking about fighting the best of the best here. He may very well shut everyone down before they get to him and be done, but he’s literally playing Russian roulette with that fighting style at welterweight. He’s got his hands down, he’s using a lot of different spins and stuff like that. Hejust opens up for his opponent,” he said.
He then singled out Russian Magomed Ankalaev, who may very well be his next challenger if he beats Anthony Smith.
“But you have to take into account that Ankalaev would be able to take advantage of mistakes. This is a methodical fighter who will take you to the ground and put you in Dagestani handcuffs. Ankalaev will certainly not be wild and rash. He’ll just wait it out. He’ll gain position, patiently improve it over time, and if you try to get up, he won’t let you go.
By holding your hand he can control you perfectly and then everything happens on the ground according to his direction. He’ll lay on top of you the whole time and pepper you with punches. He’ll get in your back and it’s bad. You don’t want to be in the cage for five rounds with someone like that. That’s a hell of a day at work,” Sterling added
We can objectively agree with his statement, but Jiri Prochazka’s style is so interesting and successful that it would be a shame to change anything about it.
