Prochazka to middleweight? Coach Karaivanov outlines options, heavyweight division is out of the question

Jiří Procházka is slowly recovering from a serious injury and his title fight is approaching fast. Due to Jamahal Hill’s injury, his return has been delayed, yet it is likely to be later this year. And then what? Middleweight may be an option.
After winning the title, Jiri Prochazka’s career seemed to be gaining momentum. The elite Czech fighter was giving interview after interview, but at the end of the year he badly injured his shoulder and it was certain that he was going to have a long break.
Now Procházka should finally be back, but unfortunately his opponent Jamahal Hill got hurt and he has to wait for the fight. No date has been set yet, but the end of 2023 is expected.
And then what? Ondrej Novotny hinted on MMA Flight Around the World that he could easily move up to heavyweight and fight for the championship belt there as well. But his coach Martin Karaivanov explained why that’s nonsense.
“The heavyweight is probably out of the question for now, he’s relatively light even for 93. He’s steadily some 96, 97, 98 kilos and he hasn’t been over 100 kilos for a long time,” Karaivanov said.
“We were talking more about him going maybe 84. No, that’s just a joke. But he might be closer to 84 than he is to that super heavyweight,” he added with humor.
Only they know how realistic a move to middleweight is, but nothing should change in the coming months. Prochazka’s goals are clear, he needs to take what was stolen from him, and that is the championship belt.
