A two-goal win in regulation and the first hat trick of his career? I didn’t know what to do. I just ran around, said Chelsea hero Palmer
Those who went to bed early must have regretted it. Chelsea were two goals up at home to Manchester United, but lost the lead and seemed to be without a point. But in the end, Cole Palmer scored twice in the set-up to score the first hat-trick of his career. What’s his reaction?

This was a game like a belt. Thursday night’s showpiece between Chelsea and Manchester United offered us seven goals. The first one was scored in the 4th minute by Conor Gallagher, who was followed up by twenty-one-year-old Cole Palmer.
United didn’t give up and, thanks to Chelsea’s defensive mistakes, they equalised by half-time when Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes scored. The Argentine sharpshooter sent United into the lead in the 67th minute and the Blues seemed to be getting sharper again.
But they didn’t! The referee whistled for a penalty kick in the tenth minute of the set-up, which Palmer took and the former Manchester City footballer fired his team to a valuable victory minutes later.
“It’s a big win, a huge boost. It puts everyone in a good mood. Let’s hope it kicks us off,” Palmer said in a post-match television interview.
And as Palmer is only 21 years old, it may come as no surprise that he scored his first Premier League hat-trick against United. “A hat-trick is a hat-trick. I’m really happy for him. I didn’t know what to do. I was just running around,” he added.
He currently has 16 goals and eight assists in 25 league games. That puts him in a nice fourth place in the scorers table, with only Mohamed Salah and Olie Watkins ahead of him in productivity, with more assists.
Erling Haaland has one fewer total points than Palmer, who has been the man of the match in Chelsea’s last four performances.
The Blues were helped significantly by this win, they are currently tenth with a loss to sixth-placed United of just five points. In addition, they have one match to play. Europe Cup is not out of the question.
