Lando Norris is considered one of the best drivers in Formula 1 today. The McLaren driver has the door open to Red Bull, according to Williams driver Alexander Albon. However, there is one significant catch.

Lando Norris has been in very good form since McLaren’s cars underwent huge upgrades and now both drivers are driving C-configured monoposts.

At the same time, it’s safe to say that the McLaren story is one of the best that this Formula One season has to offer. After all, at the start of this season, the Woking-based stable was one of the slowest in the entire grid.

Now, however, it is at the top and the results of the last few races are testament to that. In particular, Norris has racked up four podiums, four second places since the British Grand Prix. He has recorded those others in Hungary, Singapore and Japan.

With 115 points, he is currently seventh in the drivers’ championship, having already surpassed George Russell. He is now twenty points behind sixth-placed Charles Leclerc.

He is therefore at a completely different level of performance to Sergio Pérez for several reasons. It’s not just that it puts pressure on the Red Bull number two. Williams driver Alexander Albon even thinks that if Norris wants to move to the Austrian stable one day, the door is open.

Nobody’s enjoying being Max’s teammate, there’s no reason to change

In any case, Albon’s comments were a reference to his own experience with Red Bull. He also points out that Lando has no reason to change anything at the moment.

“I think if he wants to, yes, he can move. But we’ll see because I don’t think anybody enjoys being Max’s teammate. It’s difficult – I have experience of it,” Albon noted in an interview with Sky Sports.

“But if he’s confident, which he should be – from what I hear, the door has been open for a while,” said the Williams rider.

“It’s hard to say now because, like me with Williams, you can see in Lando that the relationship with McLaren is very strong, and so far it looks like there’s no reason to change that,” he concluded.
